IE6 shows "page is not available", sporadic problem

Recurring problem in that I cannot make it happen, and it happens
sporadically while browing. I will click on a link, and all of a sudden, it
will sit for a while with eventually showing the "page cannot be displayed"
text. When this happens, my Outlook (MS Outlook from Office XP), will not
be able to download email, and you get "server cannot be found" error in the
Outlook comm box. HOWEVER, I can drop to a command window and ping yahoo,
and my primary DNS successfully. I am using wireless internet through a
Linksys wireless G router, and this only occurs on the one pc (other pc's on
the workgroup, have no problems) and it is only IE6 and Outlook
communications that shut down. The pc can still browse to the other
computers in the workgroup. I have tried:

1. Ipconfig /release and /renew - no change
2. No viruses, and run anti-spyware, etc.
3. have tried uninstalling the network adapter and reinstalling it.... have
tried "repair" - still happens
4. have tried deleting cookies, files, objects from Internet options, have
reset security to medium and all defaults - still happens.

I have run netstat -no and there are no outbounds.... Also have run netdiag
for testing the winsock and it shows no errors.

One thing I need to find out about is the winsock protocols listed in
msinfo32. From the tech papers I have read, there should be a minimum of
10. I have only 4, I have: MSAFD Tcpip TCP/IP, MSAFD Tcpip UDP/IP, RSVP
UDP Service Provider, and RSVP TCP Service Provider. I do not have any of
the MSAFD NetBIOS ones listed. I have run the netsh winsock reset command
and it made no change. Is this the cause of IE6 and Outlook being unable to
connect? I find this very confusing because I can ping successfully through
the command window when this happens.... The problem happens after being on
the net for a while, sometimes days apart. The only thing that works is a
total power down and restart. And what I find interesting is that when I do
this, my homepage is msn.com. The msn.com comes up with just text on
colored backgroun, but after hitting refresh it comes up with pictures and
stuff as it should.

Any advice is most appreciated...

Hi Frank,

We have done all the malware\spyware\adware\virus scans, from safe mode and
beyond. Nothing turns up. We have been working on this for a month now....

Whatever is going on in IE at the time, Outlook will not connect either....
yet you can ping successfully from the command window. What do these two
programs have in common that both would be affected? As I have said,
cycling the power will usually clear it up, and it is intermittant. Would
some type of corruption in IE affect Outlook as well?

Dear Robert,

I have gone through the entire process of cleaning via malware programs,
step by step, as required, all the virus and trojan scans. I have posted my
HJT log and it is CLEAN. The problem is still occurring. I have, reset my
winsock.... still the problem persists..... any other suggestions?

Hi,

I have done all the malware programs and the HiJackThis, and nothing shows
up. I have also removed the latest Java update (5_6) and so far that has
worked with no reoccurance. I am still monitoring it though. I had began
to see a lot of problems with that update.
