IE6 Security Patch problems

Guest

I have been trying to download Security patches for problems with MS04-013 -
MS03-014 - MS04-018 -
I keep trying to download the patches for IEo6 and receiving messages that I
need the security pack 1, but I am sure I have it.
Seems to be a problem with downloads for Millenium
I then tried to re-download IE, but couldnt do that either. Received
message that unable to do it as some files missing .
Would be very pleased if some one could offer some help or advice

oops!!

For the "unable to install all components" issue with IE6SP1 and WinME, try
this:

Go to My Computer - Tools - Folder Options - View:
- Select "Show hidden files and folders", click Apply - OK

Create a folder named "Old uninstall".

Go to folder C:/Program Files/Internet Explorer/Uninstall Information.

Now Edit - Select All - Cut all files.

Open "Old uninstall" folder and paste the files.

You will now be able to install all the troublesome components.

If everything works as expected, you can delete the "Old Uninstall" folder
and the files you moved.

Good luck,

Hi Zee
I have done as you suggested but unfortunately I am not sure of what I am
looking at. So am afraid to do anything further.

After going through the steps described, did you try reinstalling the IE
update from Windows Update?

What happened after reinstalling? Any error message?

Hi Zee
Thank you for replying again.
I did as you suggested, but once I had the unistalled IE folder on my desk
top, I looked at what was in it but didnt know what to do. And no I didnt try
to reinstall the IE from windows update. When I swiched my Pc on this morning
it came up that I was downloading IE - I tried both methods of complete
re-install or update and it said no because files were missing

Please try installing the IE update from Windows Update and post back the
result.

Does Windows Update tell you that you need these patches?

If your version of MSHTML.DLL is 6.0.2800.1515 and BROWSEUI.DLL is
6.0.2800.1692, you have the most recent *Cumulative* Security Update for IE
installed (MS05-038) and so don't need to install the earlier ones.

Best to rely on Windows Update for patches you need instead of picking &
choosing ones you think you need.
