Hi

That error message isn't very helpful, unfortunately. See if the IE Gurus

I haven't installed any updates and I am having the same problem. All the
help on the 'ms help and support' needs me to go to websites, simply can't
open any at all, I just get the 'needs to close' error box.
I have cleared cache, emptied my history
run a sys restore
run spybot
run avg

and nothing, I just can't open any websites either thru the ie shortcut or
the favourites folder.
HELP!! lol

thanks, I may well do that if I want to go back to IE, I'll give firefox a
go for a while, if I get used to it I might just keep it.

Hi

I'll transfer this to IE News Group.

Spybot S & D won't catch all scumware.
CAUTION!!!!! Before you try to remove spyware using any of these programs ,
download a copy of LSPFIX from any of the following sites:
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
(if your OS is Win2k or XP) The process of removing certain malware may kill
your internet connection. If this should occur, this program, LSPFIX, will
enable you to regain your connection.

See
Dealing with Unwanted Malware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/cwshredder.zip
**Post your HijackThis log to
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or the Spyware forum at
http://forum.aumha.org/ for expert analysis, not here.**
Alternative download pages for Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis and CWShredder
may be found on this page:
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm.

Hi Frank

The OP's problem 'shouldn't' be down to spyware after an IE update, unless
there were 'nasties' about beforehand. Perhaps not provable now.

If I am reading you correctly, you have SP2 installed on Windows (the latest
service pack for Windows XP), and then you installed the IE SP1 security
update. You should read what the update should be for in the list of systems
it affects. You didn't need since you say you have SP2 installed, and this
may be causing some problems, and is just a guess on my part.

Read here what this is for, and what systems this affects:

http://www.microsoft.com/security/bulletins/200412_windows.mspx

Keep in mind this caveat at the top of the list! -----

" The Microsoft Windows security update for December 2004 is a cumulative
security update that resolves a newly discovered issue in Microsoft Internet
Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (SP1), a component of Windows. If you have any of
the software listed on this page installed on your computer, you should
visit the Windows Update Web site to install the related update "

Note that Windows XP SP2 is not listed!

..NET Frameworks shouldn't make IE crash. It hasn't done that here.
