IE6 fails to finish page load

Problem: IE6 pages fail to finish loading. This started about two weeks ago;
as far as I can tell or remember I have not made any changes to IE.
Depending on the URL, the page will load part way or up to 90% but will hang
and never finish loading with different messages in the bottom status bar.
Example messages are:

looking up ad doubleclick.net

or
looking up a.tribalfusion.com

or

ar.atvola.com

The pages try to load forever and I have to hit the “X†to stop loading.
Note, a few pages load OK, so the browser is capable of finishing. It’s
just, apparently, URL dependant , or smething.

I have run virus scans (spysweeper, adaware) etc and my system is clean, I
have run the clean up for IE6 (cookies, cache), My system is WIN 2K PRO, W/
SP4.

So, any suggestions on how to get IE to finish loading or what to look for?

Thanks, krazykat

Jon,

Thanks for the note, but I checked the 'host" file. It's blank. Good
suggestion though, I will check SPYsweeper to see if it has some hidden
feature.

Thanks krazykat

Yes, if you are using Webroot's Spysweeper, look in the "Shields" section,
Network tab, and you'll see a blocking option for "Common ad sites". That's
probably the issue here. From what you posted originally -

looking up ad doubleclick.net
looking up a.tribalfusion.com

Those are known ad sites - and they also probably try and give you a
tracking cookie.

Jon,

will check on Shields tonight.

Separate, but related. When I view this text on screen it is verry small. I
can incresae the screen text size by using Page, text sixe (IE7) but the
printed copy remains very small text, about 4 or 6 point. Do you know of a
way to increase the printed text size to at least 10 or 12 point?

Jon,

Went to the SPYSWEEPER Shields, and yes there was a check box saying bocking
of ad sites. I cleared the box and now IE6 loda the pages it would hang on
before. Seems to be OK, I need to do a little more loading of other sites to
be sure. THANKS!!!!

By the way, SPYSWEEPER says it blocks "common ad sites" but does not list
the blocked sites or a way to remove "common sites". Really nice of
Spysweeper to know ahead of time what I would want blocked and not even
provide a list!!

They do provide a way to edit the host file ----- to add sites you want
blocket that they forgot!!
