IE6 does not detect connection

IE6 is failing to load any webpages.
Messenger programs work properly.
Can ping other sites.
Ran spyware, anti-virus to check for known conflicts
Disabled spyware and anti-virus as a precautionary measure
while trying to load IE6
Checked all drivers; up-to-date

IE6, Win2K Pro, AMD Athlon, ATI Radeon 7500

Checked for known conflicts on the web and have acted
accordingly, still no progress.

Any insight is greatly appreciated and will not be
offended if I've already heard a suggested solution ;-)

try Repairing you ie.
If this don't work try winsock fix.

Ok, tried repairing IE...didn't work. As for winsock, I
downloaded and installed the Win2K service pack
recommended to repair the winsock file and I'm still not
connecting.
Also forgot to mention: running on LAN behind router on
cable modem... ran through IE connection setup several
times, covering all choices...checked router settings and
are fine. Other computers on network have no problem
connecting, either.
