IE6 displays "OFF" when tyring to open any web page

I have a IBM Thinkpad with Windows XP Home Edition installed running IE6. A
few days ago IE6 statered to display "OFF" on a blank web page when trying to
open any web page. I went into "Add/Remove Windows components" to reinstall
IE and MSN IE. This message keeps on appearing.

Any suggestions on how to get IE6 to work again?

Hi Nieldp,
This is a new one! Can you post back with the address of the "OFF" page that
is displaying (Select the File>Properties menu, highlight the full address
(url) and press the Ctrl+ins keys to copy it)

Regards.

It doesn't matter which webpage I open, in the top left hand corner of the
web page the "OFF" appears. No web page wants to open on that computer.
Webpages work fine on a other computer that I tested it with.

Something is interfering with IE.

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing Messenger Plus, whose ads for
malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince you that you
owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.
