IE6 - Crashes

P

Phil

I keep getting the message "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and
needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
Have tried to reinstall with IE7 but that does not resolve the problem
There is no option to view error data
Have virus checked and run windows defender (no problems found)
Problem started after Norton found and deleted Trojan "skintrim"
Any help would be appreciated

You shoudl try disabling the add-ons. Reinstalling IE wont uninstall these.
You can try restoring IE to default settings using the reset button from the
advanced tab under internet options. This should revert the settings to
factory defaults. If you run IE 7 with the -extoff
command line it would run IE without any add-ons or plugins and if you still
see a crash then it is a IE problem. To run IE7 in
safe mode you can use the following command line

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -extoff

Let me know how it goes. Send me an email at (e-mail address removed) if you
need further help.

Thanks for the help it turned out to be some form of trojan downloader which
had attached itself to various exe files. Gave up the battle after 3 days and
in the end did a complete reformat.
