IE6 Crashes with IEEE 1394 Card.

I reciently installed an XP compliant IEEE1394 card and
immediately my system can not connnect to the internet
via cable modem. I removed the card and now still cannot
connect. I can't even hit the router by typeing in the
exact router address and always get Page CAN NOT BE
displayed.

I suspect that when XP installed the 1394 card it is
redirecting the IE Explorer to try and use the 1394
network. I disabled TCP/IP on the 1394 device and still
IE Explorer wont hit anything (such as the router when
http://196.168.2.1 is used.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried plugging the cable modem into the router rather than the PC?

I originally had the cable modem is currently plugged into the router.
That was the original configuration. When I installed the 1394 card, IE
quit hitting the internet. I tried the router address, no luck. I
uninstalled the card, Still couldn't hit the router ip. Disconnected
the router and went directly to the computer - cable modem. Still no
internet. Re connected the router/cable modem. Still can't hit the
router with the http address. I'm beginning to wonder if IE somehow is
still looking to connect via the 1394 and ignoring the network card
completely. I'm contemplating a full re-install (groan) but I need the
1394 card on the computer and the internet.

Thanks for your response...any further thoughts?

I had similar problems with my satllite modem. When I had it plugged into
my computer I had to go to Tools | Internet Properties | Connection | Lan
Settings and uncheck Use proxy every time I booted. Now that it's plugged
into the router it works.
