IE6 crashes often

P

patti

My computer recently recovered from nachi worm and blaster virus. I
also installed adaware, so I have been able to get rid of the recent
browser hijacker. However, IE6 crashes on a regular basis, no matter
how many times I run the virus software or adaware.
Is there anything I can do, such as reload IE?
I am running WINXP. The computer also seems to run slower.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

While I appreciate your time to offer your stock answer, it didn't help
me any. I am already running adaware which has gotten rid of stuff, but
doesn't help the performance of IE. I went to this page you sent the
link of, but besides trying to sell me something, many of the links for
checking the browser didn't work, in other words, unclickable where it
said to click.
Can someone else that has been there done that help me? I need specific
answers if anyone has any. Do I delete IE completely and reload? Will
that help?
I have to use Netscape now for just about everything.
Thanks for your time.

Ok. You said that IE crashes often. Did you see any error messages [error-reporting dialog?] and also check the event logs.

There are no errors when it crashes, it freezes up, and you can no
longer use IE. All you can do is ctrl alt del to close it.
Where are the event logs? I couldn't find any...
Thanks...

Oh, one more thing, system restore will not restore to any date in
November of 2003, haven't tried December, but was already in trouble
with virus at that point. Is this all related? I really don't want to
reformat, if I don't have to.

Assuming that you have run Ad-Aware scan already:

Reinstallation of IE might help:

thanks for the advice. first thing that repair page tells me to do is
to type in sfc/scannow in the run window. i do that and immediately i
get a popup window saying that can't be found.
is this a problem? (btw, thanks for all your help thus far!)

Read it more carefully. There is a space before the slash.

Open a Command prompt window and type "SFC /Scannow". [watch the space in between]
