IE6 continually shutting down

I am running windows XP. My browser (IE6, SP1 installed)
is continually shutting down for no obvious reason. I
can't identify an action which initiates it, it seems to
happen after all sorts of actions. I found one item in on
this site which suggests that IE6 does not like working
with windows XP desktop so I changed this back to
classic. Don't know what else to do.

If you mean you IE is closing then:

I.E. closes, 3 possible reasons.

Parasite?
IE 6.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit is with these
tools.

I've never had problems with the WinXP desktop and IE.
Eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
