IE6 can't connect to Google but can connect to many other URLs

Hi.

I am running IE6 on a Win98SE platform over ADSL, and this
has been a stable system for many months. Today, most of
my URL links have been fine, but I've been consistently
unable to connect to 2 sites all day: www.google.com and
www.t-mobile.co.uk/ When I try to connect to either of
these 2 URLs I get the standard error: "The page cannot be
displayed. The page you are looking for is currently
unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical
difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser
settings." I can connect to many other URLs successfully,
both UK-based and worldwide. There doesn't seem to be a
logical reason or pattern, and I admit I'm baffled.

I have e-mailed this issue to my ISP (OneTel) and got a
reply back which offered the following advice (and I
quote):

1) There could be technical problems with the site.
2) The problem is been caused by your browser, in which
case if the problem continues i suggest that you reinstall
it.

The above response was no help at all, as I offered the
information in my initial query that I was able to connect
to other sites, which would rule out the browser software,
and I've been able to connect to these 2 sites quite
happily yesterday and before. I haven't changed anything
on my system, and I run Norton Internet Security 2003
Professional Edition, which, as far as I'm aware, hasn't
encountered any intrusion attempts on my machine.

I have a few questions, if anyone could help:

Could it be a routing issue from my ISP's server ?
If not, what else could be causing the problem ?
Wouldn't my ISP be able to trace my connection attempts
to help diagnose and pinpoint the problem - or are they
being lazy and palming me off with any excuse ?
Is there any software or test which I can run myself to
check further ?

Any assistance or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, in advance.

Edward.

I actioned your suggestions, and can now connect to the
sites which weren't working - all other URLs I need are
fine, too.

Thanks for your most helpful and timely response.
