IE6 and Apache webserver

Hi

I have installed an Apache webserver (2.0.39) and enabled basic
authentication on a directory. I have configured an user using
htpasswd.

I am trying to access a page in the protected directory and I get a
login/password window. However, when it does'nt get authenticated at
the server.

What settings, if any are needed at the browser? Is the browser not
sending the password correctly? What next steps can I take to resolve
this.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Have you tried checking your Apache logs?
