IE version confusion

Kenneth Clive

I downloaded IE6 SP1 for my computer to upgrade from IE5
(for some reason IE5 came with XP...). But, when I look
in the "Program Files/Internet Explorer" directory, the
file version is STILL 5.0! And then I look in the
registry and it says I have 6.0! What's all this about?

Regards,

Kenneth Clive.

To determine the version of Internet Explorer that is currently installed on your computer, use any of the following methods:

1) Determine the version of Internet Explorer by using the user interface

In all versions of Internet Explorer, click About Internet Explorer on the Help menu. The product and version information is displayed in the dialog box that appears.

2) Determine the version of Internet Explorer by using the registry:

You can determine the version of Internet Explorer that you are running by viewing the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
