IE slowdown with Comcast

Comcast service has been out and says everything is normal and I can
download files (like SP2 for reinstalling) very fast. But web pages come up
excrutiatingly slow as if I had dial-up. I have flushed the cache, run
antispyware (I have MS Antispyware loaded and it says all is normal and I
also run Ad-Aware). Norton Antivirus shows no viruses. There are several
programs in memory that I find weird such as Itunes and some other things,
but there is no change if I close them.

I downloaded Firefox 1.04 and it made no difference. Web pages load slowly
so it isn't IE settings. Comcast put in a new modem and redid the network
settings. They say it is the PC but can offer no help. The only thing I
notice about the way the PC runs is that Windows Update won't work and says
it is sorry there is an error on the page when I click express or custom
install. Automatic Updates window won't come up either.

I checked the video settings and they seem normal and right. All other
programs (Office, Outlook Express) work normally and speedily. This is a
fairly new Compaq with 512meg memory and all is fast except surfing the
Internet.

Thanks for any ideas.
