IE shuts down when I open a new link

I have IE with Windows XP and it will search websites just
fine but when I go to open a new link the link pops up
fine but IE shuts down completely other than the new
link. From inside the new link I cannot go back or do
anything. Any help would be appreciated.

Go to IE>tools>internet options>advanced>scroll to 'reuse windows for
launching shortcuts', disable it. apply/ok your way out.
