IE security

Some time ago I wrote a little script utility to remove
nags from XP and IE. Now I'm finding that it's outdated.
For instance, the setting that used to remove the IE
information bar now doesn't work. I was helping a friend
who's using IE and he was stopped twice on one page
by the info. bar. Once was for an invalid certificate.
The second time it blocked downloading a file. I've lost
track of all the restrictions. Does anyone have a link
to comprehensive information about all of these settings
and their Registry values?

You don't mention what version of IE you are using, but if it's IE7, then
try disabling all addons.

Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer 7
(No Add-ons) to start without any add-ons.

I'm not talking about any specific version. And I'm
not talking about problems with add-ons. Add-ons have
nothing to do with frivolous security nags added to IE.

I'm talking about nags, restrictions, blocked downloads...
Each version of IE is worse than the last. One issue is to
actually remove the information bar. I've been researching
since I posted that post and I think I've found the answer
to that one. But what I want in general is to update a couple
of 1-stop utilities that I've written, providing all the toggles
that Microsoft hasn't provided for various nags that one
may not want. I though someone here might have
especially good links to that kind of info.
