IE only allows 1 window to stay open

I cannot run more than 1 IE window at once. Whenever I
right click to open a link in a new window, or when using
separate pop-up windows, such as my ISP e-mail, the
original window closes and a new one opens.

I have scanned for viruses, spyware/adware with McAfee
Security Suite, and reset my IE to default levels. The
Windows critical updates were current. I ran
sfc/scanow. I re-installed Explorer after tricking the
registry key. While trying regsvr32 in run window, I
think Msjava.dll failed, but all others checked out ok.
With no fix, I assessed that it was time to backup,
repartition and reload.

I completed a fresh OS reload, and IE briefly allowed
multiple windows, until I started to load my software
back. Unfortunately, I did not systematically test IE
after each program loaded, so when I'd realized I could
only open 1 window again, it could have been any number of
programs that was the cause.

I failed to Ghost my Image when it worked, and will have
to start from scratch to troubleshoot. I might try to
delete the list of sowtware that I'd loaded 1-by-1, test
my IE, and see if I can isolate the malingerer, assuming
each removal is clean. I could also reload my OS again
and load SW 1-by-1 with interspersed IE testing after each
load to isolate the problem.

Since I'm looking to avoid 2 more reloads and want fix the
issue, I was hoping for another path. Has anybody else
seen this and do you have any suggestions based on my
description? Otherwise, if there are no ideas, I will
conduct a full reload and systematic test.

Thanks,

Hi,
Your troublemaker is going to be something like a pop-up blocker, Google
toolbar, Yahoo companion (notorious for causing this) MSN toolbar, Earthlink
pop-up blocker, etc. Look at programs that would be interacting with IE.
