IE failing when other browsers succeed

N

Win XP SP2, all updates installed, Norton, Compaq Presario, new Linksys
router interfacing to cable modem.

IE worked fine until two days ago. Now, attempts to browse _any_
website bring the page that leads off with "The page cannot be
displayed" and ends with

Cannot find server or DNS Error
Internet Explorer

Other Internet-releated operations (the Opera browser among them)
appear normal. Also, second XP computer on same LAN exhibits normal IE
behavior.

Any ideas on what to check? This one has me scratching my head!

Thanks

Rick

1. Internet Explorer generates an error message that states that a page
cannot be displayed on a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 or
Windows XP:

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.
