IE DNS error

When I try to access a secure web site using Internet Explorer, I get the error message "Cannot find server or DNS error". I can access non-secure web pages just fine. I can access the same secure web sites in Netscape without any problem. So I believe something is wrong with some setting(s) in IE. I did run Adaware and it found a couple things that I removed but that didn't solve this problem. I've also run "netsh int ip reset c:\tcp.txt" and "ipconfig /reset" but I still get the error. My TCP/IP settings are set to "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically". If it helps, this all started after I made some changes to the registry. But I'd like to not change them back because it solved another (unrelated as far as I know) problem. Can anyone tell me what is wrong and how to fix this

Thanks
