IE causing computer "hanging" after restarting the computer from stand by mode

System: Windows XP
If IE (version 6) is open when I put the computer on
stand by, it causes the computer to "hang frequently.
What I mean is - the computer will work for a minute -
then "freeze" for a minute - then work for another minute
and "freeze" again. It only happens when IE is open and
the computer is coming off of stand by mode. This does
not happen if I do a fresh start up - but who wants to do
that every time. It also causes other programs to do the
same - but if IE was not open, there would be no problems
with other programs. Please help - I am so frustrated and
have not idea how to fix this!

Your Computer Stops Responding (Hangs) When You Try to Bring It out of
Standby or out of Hibernation by Using a USB Device
When you try to wake your computer (that is, to bring it out of standby or
out of hibernation) by using a USB device, such as a USB mouse or a USB
keyboard, the computer stops responding, or "hangs."
