IE cannot open Internet site...

When I attempt to open just a couple of internet sites, I
get the message "Internet Explorer cannot open Internet
site XXXXX. Operation aborted"

I have tried removing spyware/adware, erasing the cookie
for that site, and searching for the site entry in a host
file. I don't know what else to do.

Please help.

Is the site XXXXX or some other name?

You may have a new variant. Check it out with this forum.

Go to http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads.php#det
Download "Hijack This!" [freeware] or download direct (below):
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/hijackthis.zip

If you get a 404 error or Access denied, try:
http://216.180.252.218/~spywareinfo.com/downloads/tools/hijackthis.zip

Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates "hijackthis.log")

Next, HijackThis | Config [button] | Misc Tools [button]
Click: Generate StartupList log [button] (generates "startuplist.txt")

Next, go to the below location:

Sign in, then copy and paste both files in your message.

I had exactly the same problem. Going to the KCSTAR web
site, at www.kcstar.com, would load the page, and then
display, "Internet Explorer cannot open the web site.
Operation aborted", despite the fact that I could see the
web page below the error message. When I would
click "OK", the page would disappear and be replaced by
one of IE's error messages.

I tried checking the "HOSTS" files, but nothing look
corrupted.

I loaded ADAWARE and ran the program. The program found
32 suspicious registary entries, and I deleted them, but
the problem with IE wasn't fixed.

I re-ran ADAWARE, and got the latest updates and the
program found an additional 18 suspicious entries. After
those were quaranteened, suddenly IE worked!!

I suspect that there were still spyware programs screwing
up IE, and after the second purge of these programs,
things are finally working.
