ie 6 window focus

i use ie to create a new window(using control-N or file >
new > window). for clarity, i will refer to original
window as window1 and new window as window2.

when browsing in window2 and i go to favorites to access a
bookmark. when i click on the desired favorite(either from
the favorites drop-down or from the links toolbar), the
page loads in window1 instead of window2(the active
window). this is very frustrating because, oftentimes, the
reason i opened window2 as a new window was so that i would
not lose the page/data loaded in window1.

how do i force window focus to remain in window2 and have
the favorite i select load there instead of the window1?

Using the Favorites menu in the Start menu works for me.

Ctrl-Esc,Alt-a,...

I think but am not sure that that even works when
Reuse windows for launching shortcuts
is checked. (That's a default setting in the Advanced tab.)
Usually I leave that option unchecked.
