IE 6, Win XP stops responding once connected to internet

I have a problem with IE and WIn XP professional. In
school, I connect to the network and have no degradation
of wither programs. However, once at home, I use 56K
dialup and IE and Windows hangs. It takes 5 minutes to
simply open the browser once I am connected and links
take the same time to open. At the same time, I cannot
seem to open anything else (eg. Explorer, desktop, my
documents etc.) as this will simply freeze my system for
a good 5-10 minutes. The only trick that works is to
open as many windows of IE and all folders I think I
require before logging onto the internet. I have all the
updates and stuff for Windows. DOes anyone have the same
problem or knows how to fix it?

IE 6.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.

Let AD-Aware Scan your system for advertising Spyware

or:

SpyBot-S&D

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.
