IE 6 Problem

Guest

Just recently started having this problem. When I go to
certain web sites, i.e. cnet.com, only part of the page
loads. The text loads, but thumbnails or links don't
load. I just get a blank spot on the screen where the
picture of the link would be. Downloaded mozilla firefox
and I had the same problem. So I don't know if the
problem is with IE or if its with my system.

If you dont see a Red X but just a blank white space, it may be your personal firewall or ad blocker.

Interesting quote from this page:...
"Several of these are known to cause problems:
1) Zone Alarm Pro [Private Header Info - enabled?]"

From my own tests, this is what happens ...when I have Private Headers
turned OFF in ZA Pro, pics display as a 'red x' on *some* websites but
not all of them.
The question is why.?
What data is contained in Private Headers.?
Is there anything the website owner can do to solve this problem.?

Not experimented far on this, but here is a paragraph from a previous newsgroup post about "HTTP referrer header field"

<quote>
An optional field in the message that opens a Web page, containing information about the "referring document." Properly used, this field helps webmasters administer their sites. Improperly used, it can divulge your IP address, your workstation name, login name, or even (in a poorly-implemented e-commerce site) your credit card number. By selecting Remove Private Header information in the Cookies tab, you prevent this header field from transferring any information about you.

Interesting. Sounds horrific...
I knew about some of the date contained in Private Headers but not
all of it. That 'quote' is a good reason for switching them off but
doesn't resolve the downside problem of pics displaying a Red X
on *some* websites.

Are you using IESpyAds ? It blocks a huge list of AD sites. Already seen a case where this was the cause (non-fatal)

I use SpywareBlaster but the problem already existed.
I use a large HOSTS file but again, the problem pre-existed.

I also use ZA-Pro with some stuff blocked.
It's here where the problem lies - when I *unblock* Private Headers,
the problem goes away. If I *block* them, the Red X appears but
only on some websites. There's something about this on another
website: http://www.colba.net/~hlebo49/ieimage.htm with some links
to MS documents. It may be something to do with *how* the website
calls its own images - it might need the Private Header data to work.

Not sure...but if so, I see that as a fault on the website, given
the potential information contained in Private Headers.
