IE 6 Fails to run Active X Controls

L

Lou Brockwy

Who knows the answer to this one. None of my IE settings
are set to disallow ActiveX controls. Netscape serves
pages with ActiveX controls just fine.

But each time I point IE to a page with Active X
components, I get the message "Your current security
settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page.
As a result, the page may not display correctly."

Where do I go to configure this if not through IE? Can
this be a result of prior virus infestation?

I've lived with this too long and haven't a clue.

Thanks

Doubleclick on the security zone icon in the status bar.
That will bring up the Security options dialog.
If Default Level is active (not greyed) click on it.
Test with that change.

If you still have a problem and you want help tell us
what level the security is then set at (should be Medium).
Click on Custom Level..., then navigate to the section headed
"ActiveX controls and plug-ins" and try setting the following ones
(which should default to Enable) to Prompt:
Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins
Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting
Allow those changes and test with them.

If you still get your symptom but don't get a prompt it is likely
that the controls you are getting the message for are deemed unsafe
or some other category of program (such as Java applet.)
If you want you could try setting one of the other settings to Prompt too
in case that produced any more clues about your symptom.
Unfortunately in the case of Microsoft VM there is no Prompt available
to test with like this; you can either allow it with varying degrees of safety
or disable it entirely.

Tip: I find it easier to navigate from the bottom to the top because
then I can use CursorLeft to contract each item as I look at it.

If you have a specific page to cite as an example we would be able
to advise you better about the possibilities there were with it.
