IE 6.0 - New Window closes original window

About two weeks ago Internet Explorer 6.0 (with the latest updates) running
on XP-SP2 began this behavior. The Original window closes if 1)I open up a
new window from the File menu, 2)I choose to open a link in a New Window, or
3)a link on a site opens up a new window. It's most annoying and frustrating.
I haven't been able to find any information on how to fix this yet. Any
suggestions?

I want to add that I've already followed the advice found in several other
entries that appear to have the same problem. I've gone to Tools | Internet
Options | Advanced and unchecked "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts".
I've also checked my firewall software and pop-up blocker settings, to no
avail. And I'm not using Yahoo Companion, MSN Toolbar, or Google Toolbar. Any
other advice?
Thanks.

OK. Sometimes just venting helps the brain to work better and the Infinite
Intelligence streams through.

Here's the solution I found:

It turns out that it was an "Add-On" that was causing the problem. I indeed
have the "Yahoo! Toolbar Helper" active. I disabled this and everything seems
back to normal.

Go to Tools | Manage Add-ons... | Choose Show "Add-ons currently loaded in
Internet Explorer" and look through the list for the offending culprit. Mine
was the "Yahoo! Toolbar Helper" Browser Helper Object (yt.dll). Highlight and
choose the "Disable" radio button in the Settings area. Click on OK. Restart
IE and you should be good to go. I'm back in business.
