IE 6.0 does not recognize .asp pages

When I click on a link that launches an .asp page for some reason IE doesn't
load the page it askes me which program i want to load the file with or if I
want to download the file. Is there a setting in IE that prevents it from
running asp pages? If so how do I allow asp pages in IE. This is the first
time I have come across anything like this.

I assume you are trying to display an asp page that is on your loca
machine. IE or any other browser will not display .asp pages the wa
you might expect unless served by IIS web server. ASP is executed by
web server and the HTML output by the server will display correctly i
your browser. ASP scripts are not executed by IE or any browser

The server that is supposed to be executing the asp page is apparently
sending it as a file and not html. I'm not sure why this is happening. when
i mouse over the link it says it is a java script. It's as if the company is
using java script to launch the asp page which is to create the web page for
me to view but somewhere in the process either IE is getting lost or the web
server isn't executing. the asp page and is just sending the asp file.
