IDLE.EXE process is using 100% of the CPU

In task manager under the processes tab there is a
IDLE.EXE that is using 100% of the CPU. I can't end the
process using task manager. I did a search for IDLE.EXE
and there is a folder named IDLE and the IDLE.EXE is
located in that folder. It is located in c:\winnt\system32
\idle. Note sure what the exe is used for, please help.
