ICS Host fails to autodial

I have a desktop and a laptop PC connected via a crossover cable. Both
systems are running XP home. I have setup up the desktop as an ICS
host to share its ISDN internet connection with the client laptop.
(The ISDN is actually a UK BT Home highway system and we use the USB
interface)

On the host i have enabled all the following :

1. "Allow other network users to connect through this computers
internet connection"
2. "Establish a dial-up connection whenever a computer on my network
attempts to access the internet"
3. "Allow other network users to control or disable the shared
Internet connection"

The problem is that No's 2 and 3 are not entirely working. If i
establish a connection directly on the host then the client can browse
the internet OK. I can make the host disconnect off the Internet from
the client OK. However, i cannot get the host to connect to the
internet from the client.

I have tried using the "Connect" option after right clicking on the
"Internet Gateway" within "Network Connections" on the client. This
opens a dialog box which indicates that the gateway is "Connecting"
but after a minute or so it disapears and "Network Connection"
indicates the gateway is still disconnected.

If i just try browsing with IE on the client then i just get "Page
could not be found"

I have a very similar setup elsewhere (except both desktop and client are XP
PRO) where this all works fine. As far as i can tell the settings are
the same but obviously something is different.

Could anyone give me any pointers of how to solve this issue? I have
searched Usenet for a couple of hours but not found the same issue.
Are there any logs i can check to gather more info?

TIA

Guy

Also the other (Working) system uses a standard 56K dialup rather than USB
interface to BT's home highway system in case that makes any difference.

I am not near the failing system at the moment to provide Ipconfig info,
however if its needed i will go ang get it.
