ICQ or MS IM on desktop a security problem?

I am trying to receive tech support on a software that only does real time
tech support via ICQ and/or MS IM. My workstation has access to server
admin, although I have to specifically login. Our server has SonicWall
firewall. My desktopp does not have server admin access unless logged in.

Will installing and using these programs open me up to security problems?
