Icons

How can I get rid of all of the icons in the toolbar on
the lower right side of my desktop.

These icons appear nest to the clock and there are so
many I am sure they are slowing down my startup time.

I hardly ever use them and would like to delete them.

Be very careful which programs you wish to deselect - make a Restore Point
before you start this procedure and only uncheck those programs you know!

Run msconfig - go to startup, most of the programs in your sys tray will be
there and you can uncheck them so that they will not start when you boot up.

After you restart your PC a message will appear stating that you have
started a Selective boot, select don't show this again and then click OK.
The programs you selected will no longer be in your sys tray and this should
speed up your PC, (a bit anyway).

Check whether the programs in question are listed here:
Start>Run.Msconfig>ok
Click Startup tab and uncheck them>ok/apply>Reboot

First check in the preferences for the program that loads each icon to
see if it there is a setting to stop it from loading. For those that
you can't change that way then disable in msconfig.

They are put there by programs that are starting automatically at boot.
Best approach is to open the program and look in its own Options for one
'Run when Windows starts up' and uncheck it.

If not available, Start - Run - MSconfig.exe
Look on the Startup page for relevant lines and uncheck them. Exit - do
not bother to reboot, but next time you do there will be a message about
'System Configuration'. Check the 'Do not show again' box and exit

Be careful; there are some things started there that you would need.
So be selective, and if there is trouble after unchecking a line, go
back and restore it.
