Icons refreshing slowly

Hi

When exploring using My Computer, my desktop icons refresh very slowly which
bogs everything down. I have read that this is due to the icons exceeding
the cache limit and found a fix here -

The suggestion was to run both the edits on line 157. I have been in the
Registry before with bad outcome so I want to know if anyone has applied
this and that it works safely and effectively and is indeed the right fix. I
would backup reg first of course - to CD-R??

Win XP Pro SR1 PIII 800MHz / 256 MB RAM.

I had the same problem, but I found that fix No. 121, Increase Icon Cache,
did the trick for me. The icons now refresh simultaneously and immediately.

I think that fix seems more pertinent for my problem according to the titles
of the others. I will give it a go.
