Icons on Desktop and Start Menu

I got my PC 3 years ago. It is a COMPAQ PRESSARIO 6000.
WHen windows starts, 3 icons from compaq appear both on the desktop and
start menus. Regardless of how many times i delete these icon (which are
shortcuts) they reappear every time i reboot???

The files are callled 'CarePaq Services', 'Click Now for Cool Options' and
'Get on the Internet'. Im afraid if delete the original file it will cause
me problems. I just want them to stop appearing on my screen.

The files have never been used and its all a bunch of crap!!

2 possibilities
Create a folder on the root of C: , move the files into it.
Run msconfig and deselect each item that appears on the run menu

Thanks mate - im not quite sure i understand what you mean - im no that
technologically advanced - im 15!!!
