Icons in the notification area...

A litle over a month ago, I had downloaded an accelerator
program designed not only to speed up my broadband but to
also speed up the desktop. I've searched and searched,
but I can't find the program file after I removed it from
my computer. I remember that it started with something
like "acc", then of course the exe.

Anyway, my problem is that now I only can get my network
connection icons and my Norton Anti-virus icons to appear
in the notification area. I've worked through the taskbar
setting, hiding the inactive icons, selecting "Always
show", unselecting hide inactive icons...just about every
single combination that a person could think of. As a
test, I've gone into sound properties and selected and
deselected the volume icon in every possible combination,
too, and still nothing.

Any idea on how I can solve this problem? I don't think
that it's a registry problem, but more of the system.ini
or boot.ini problem. Any help would be greatly
appreciated. Thank you.

Rob, define "after I removed it..." Do you mean you uninstalled the file,
or did you delete a folder? If you deleted a folder, the best way might be
to reinstall the program and then uninstall it. If you uninstalled either
using a program link or the add/remove programs icon, then you might try a
restore point before the problem started.
