Icons Changed

Whenever I open My Computer all the icons for my drives have changed. By
changed I mean they all look the same as a Windows file icon, not the
icons usually seen i.e. DVD Rom, HDD etc. I've tried a refresh and tried
to change the icons through the desktop properties but no joy. Can
anyone help me restore the icons to their original state?

TIA

Have you checked for the Autorun.inf file? Also, pls post a screenshot or to my email

Yes m8, looked for Autorun.inf files of which I have a few but they are
all associated with programs I have on the PC. Trawled the registry for
the string that the webpage you supplied the link too but there was no
entry under that string.

Autorun.inf is not intended to be on the hard drive root folder.

It isn't that's what I'm telling you. There is no autorun.inf file in
the root folder, so something else is obviously causing the problem.
Would a re-install of Xp over the top sort the problem?

If you hve checked both the registry paths and the problem persists, then try deleting the iconcache.db, followed by repair icons feature in Tweak UI. Note that Tweak UI repair icons feature can sometimes, corrupt the icon views. If that happens, alter the Shell Icon BPP value here: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/repairicons.htm

Ok I'll give it a try and let you know what happens.

No joy m8, everything still the same, the weblink was no good as all the
registry settings were at the correct values. Looks like a re-install over
the top might be my last option.
