I want to get brackets round my figures not minus signs

i want to put a bracket round my negative numbers not a minus sign how do i
do this? As when I attempt to it automatically converts it to a minus sign

Interestingly, if you set your Windows format for negative numbers to
have a bracket round them, Lotus *automatically* takes that as default.
Microsoft Excel, produced by the same company that makes Windows does
NOT!!!!!!! Come on MS, do some joined-up thinking for once!

If bracketed negatives are not available in Format>Cells>Number.....

This is a function of your Regional Settings in Windows OS.

Start>Settings>Control Panel>Regional and Language Settings>Regional
Options>Customize>Currency>Negative Currency Format. Click on drop-down arrow
and select the ($1.1)

Apply and OK>Apply your way out.

You will have to close Excel then re-open to see effects.

You will then be able to choose that format.
