I need a driver...I tried a PS2 to USB converter for keyboard

Matthew

I have an old IBM PS2 keyboard that I attempted to hook
up to a Compaq laptop running Win XP Pro using a simple
PS2 to USB converter. However, when I plugged in the
adapter to my USB, the computer recognized that there was
a device there, but the keys wouldnt respond... It seems
that it requires a driver in order to work... Is there
anyone who has any idea where i might find one?

Thanks,
Matt

In order for a device to be correctly recognized by the USB the hardware
connecting to it has to be able to 'tell' the PC what it is. If it is an
older keyboard, it probably does not have that information included in it.
It needed to come with the adapter for you to be sure that it would be
recognized correctly. If it's that old a keyboard, it won't have the
correct information in it... you'll find that USB wasn't around when the
keyboard was manufactured. Therefore no operating system will be able to
correctly identify it nor install any drivers because it has no idea what
it's connecting to.

Solution... purchase a new USB keyboard! Or connect it to the PS/2 port
where it will be found and identified correctly.
