I keep receiving "An unknown error has occurred"

Message could not be displayed
Windows Mail encountered an unexpected problem while displaying this
message. Check your computer for low memory or low disk space and try again

This occurs when I go to the OUTBOX and notice NO emails are being sent.
When I try to delete the email, it will not do it.

send mails.

Hello cal bear 66, your reference to WMUtil worked like a charm, the red box
held the magic, thank you.

I think I found a work-around, a little clumsy, but it works. Instead of
deleting your messages, move them to the "junk mail" folder, using edit and
move to a folder, (NOT declaring it junk) and then highlight the junk mail
folder and hit delete. It permantly removes the messages.

I was even able to move about 10 messages at a time from the deleted items
folder to junk mail and get rid of them.

I clean out my sent mail folder this morning and had about 1000 messages,
and that was all stuck...not anymore.

Has anyone tried the beta that was listed somewhere in this thread?

You're welcome.

But, all thanks should go to Steve Cochran who wrote the utility and generously
provided it for free.

Nice! Your niece made a wise choice and will love Cal.

Is the Clear Outbox grayed out?

Make sure Windows Mail is closed. Make sure WMUtil is closed. Right click on
the Taskbar and select Task Manager. On the Processes tab. click the Show
processes from all users button. Approve UAC. Click the Image Name button to
sort by name. Find WinMail.exe. Highlight it and press the End Process button.

Open WMUtil and press the Clear Outbox button.

If this does not work out, please post back describing the problem.

Unfortunately..still no luck. The problem is that the item in the outbox
cannot be deleted or sent...thereby causing an error message each and every
time i send any other items (which will work!). I cant move this problematic
email into the junk mail, i cant delete it and i cant send it..it just sits
there and creates the error message "an unkown error has occured". any other
ideas??? thanks.

isnt sounding good!

You're not trying to run WMUtil from the downloaded zip folder are you?

Press the Extract all files button on the toolbar of the folder after you double
click on the downloaded zip file, and then double click on the WMUtil.exe from
the EXTRACTED folder.

There's a conspiracy of silence by pc manufacturers, internet service
providers
and the vendors of Vista non compliant antivirus software. They know the
problem exists but to acknowledge might be bad for profits.

Oh that's just lovely. But I'm surprised the problem DOES exist you'd think
they'd have enough experience and know better by now those clowns.....

YOU ARE THE BEST!!! That is exactly what i was doing...running it from the
zip folder rather than extracting the files...problem solved! for now!!!
Thank you again. Go Cal!!!

Great!!!

I'm very happy you got your problem solved.

Best wishes to you and your Old Blue husband from another Old Blue in NYC, and
give my regards and best wishes to your future Cal Bear niece. I know she will
enjoy and value her experiences at Cal as much as I do.
