i keep getting numbers instead of letters when i type certain key

Hi
when i type using certain keys i get a number rather than a letter. it goes
away when i hold down the fn key, but i need a long term remedy.

any idea how i can fix it/

It sounds like you have a laptop and you have NumLock on. You can most
likely press Fn+NumLock together to toggle the setting.
