I insert a footnote

I insert a footnote and I get 5 or 6 pilcrows (alinea marks) at the top of
the note in the bottom of the page. Then I can't get rid of these...

Any hint?

Well thanks Stefan, I did read the thread, however it deals with the separator size, not the problem of having 'ghost pilcrows' in my footnote. You can't even select the separator line nor any of the pilcrows. Is that another MS Word bug?

The more I use Word the more bugs I discover. I know you are not working for
MS but, I am amazed by the clumsiness and fickleness of Word. (I was a
FrameMaker user).

But I do thank you and appreciate your MVP intervention now that i
understand your role. Frankly even this 'discussion group' business is not
the easiest thing to navigate and to find answers. But again, not your fault,
and still much better than nothing.

Are you sure you read the troubleshooting section of
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/NoteSeparators.htm? Did you read earlier
the explanation of how to open the separator for editing? You most certainly
can select and delete emtpy paragraphs from the separator if they are part
of it. If they are not, perhaps they are in the footer instead?
