I have a problem creating a ODBC connection to a Foxpro Database!!

J

John C. Hill

I am trying to create a ODBC connection to Visual Foxpro Database. When I
select the Visual Foxpro driver witch is version 1.00.02.00, I receive a
"Visual Fox Pro ODBC Error: "You must install the current version of the
Visual FoxPro ODBC Driver. Go to
http://madn.microsoft.com/vfoxpro/downloads. Select Product Updates, then
Visual FoxPro ODBC driver."

I have done this and installed the driver. It says that it installed
successfully. However, I never see the updated driver in the list of ODBC
drivers.

Any help would be very appreciated.

Thanks again

John

Hi John,

The latest FoxPro and Visual FoxPro is downloadable from
msdn.microsoft.com/vfoxpro/downloads/updates/odbc . There is not a link to
it on the page you referenced. Perhaps you got the OLE DB data provider
instead.

Thanks for the reply, Cindy.

I have downloaded the driver from the link you provided. I still get the
same error when trying to create a connection to a foxpro database. I have
foxpro ver. 9.0 with service pack 1 installed and I also downloaded and
installed the latest OLE DB driver for foxpro. I am still unable to create
a connection.

Any help will be very appreciated.

Thanks,

John

I'm still not sure. Do you want to create an ODBC connection or an OLE DB
connection? What sort of development tool or application are you trying to
connect with?

Thanks for replying, Cindy

I'm trying to connect to the FoxPro Database thru Access2003 with an ODBC
data Source.

Hope this helps

Thanks,

John

I assume you know the Access procedure to import/link tables via ODBC.

The latest version of the Fox ODBC driver is 6.01.8629.01 . Do you have a
driver listed with that version number on the Drivers tab of the ODBC setup?
(Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Data Sources (ODBC))

Hi Cindy,

Thanks for the help. Sorry it has taken so long to respond.

I do not see version 6.01.8629.01. My version shows "Microsoft Visual
FoxPro Driver 1.00.02.00.

How do I upgrade to the newer version?

Thanks

John

Hi Cindy,

I have downloaded the link to the foxpro ODBC driver. When I run the msi
file that I downloaded, Iget a Windows Installer error "The system
administrator has set policies to prevent this installation". I can't get
the install to go any further than this. I don't understand what the
problem is. I have installed applications with the msi exentsion before
with now problems.

Thanks,

John

John,

Did you ever get a resolution to this. I'm testing an app for Vista and ran
into the exact same problem.
