I got a little problem with my video card in 3d mode and on my desktop...

Well it simple, it a sapphire x1800gto and in games and in 2d app
there is a little line, more like a tin wave line a sort of distortion
in the color. In oblivion, need for speed most wanted and Tomb rider
legend does it. Others games should to it too as it is every where it
goes from the top to the buttom of the screen and 10cm from the right

I didn't notice it at first but now it more ovious than before.

I did oc the card a little bit for the gpu only and for the rest like
the mem i didn't.

the gpu is by default at 500mhz so i up it with the ati over drive abd
let it do it thing with the gpu up to 550mhz... at first i was impress
with the benchmark in 3dm05 witch it give me from 65xx points a + of
380.

The r520 core is shared around differents card like the xl the pro and
the xt. So i wander what could have been wrong.

Maybe it's a defective card and it only shows now. I'm running all my
games at full details at 1024x764x32 so it put the card at the egde
of it performance. Maybe its what it does for a cheap card?

Hope you don't mind me asking. I just got Oblivion last week. When I
installed it on my system with an ATI x850, the program said it runs it at
hi-resolution mode. What type of goodies do you get with that top end card
running Oblivion? So far everything looks good to me. (Maybe I shouldn't
ask) The only problem I am having is getting killed all the time.

Ran into my first gate last night. Still getting killed. It amazes me how
games are pushing the graphics industry more that anything else.

Back in the 80's I did some work for Evans & Sutherland in Salt Lake City,
they made flight simulators for the AirForce and auto simulators for car
manufacturers. Had a friend who would go to the location and hook up the
system for the end user. They would give their left arm for what these
graphics cards can do today.

I understand their is a patch for Oblivion that gives more detail on the ati
cards from ati. Do you know anything about that? Is it worth down loading
and using?

Wish I could help you on your problem, sorry. Good luck. Wish I had a
x1800gto. Lucky dog.

Ok im game to try an help. Any speakers close to monitor or any magnets
close to monitor. I had similar problems due to that. An moving speakers
around the distortion also moved. Moved speakers further away fixed it.

Well on my side it say that too, the game set it self on high details
but in a average setup, If you go in the option tab during the game
then you could adjust the distance view of object fading in the
distance and characters too. But that not all there a bunch of
parameters that can be push too like shadows and lightning effect.

In example when you click the icon in windows to run the game it give
a little windows where it says for the first time that the game is set
to high details. Try to click every thing to get all the extra eye
candy's. it think that hdr wont be available on your card it is a
feature use on x1xxx cards i think.

For the patch available on ati web site i didn't had any chance by
installing it and run the game with the hdr + 6xAA. Maybe it work for
others but here it's not.

So for your situation i don't think it will give you more setup in the
game as your video card don't support HDR.

Ps: for your survival in the game you should like it say stay on the
road and talk to people get some mission to do and try to do them...
after each time you accomplish something or have play for an hour or 2
you should get your character to sleep in a INN. that is available in
each town in ciradel... If you encounter any fire portal door then
maybe you should wait a little bit at the point that you are there is
no need to get to oblivion...

Get some point and gold try to fight enemies that aren't to big visit
some cave along the road pick lock the case that are there and
depending on your character status don't take anything that appear to
be marked with a red hand when you pass the mouse over as it will
stole that item...

Ps: that's a bit annoying when you talk to other characters in a inn
or a house...

Also my experience on my side says that hdr is just some new feature
that use some lightning effects and blur around thing and its a bit to
strong for my taste... Ie: if your late in the day and your position
is "your back facing the sun" and your are looking at some characters
then your will see that they mostly change color matching the shine of
the sun... anyway maybe it can be adjust to get something less bright.

I wounder how it like with your card? Did you get a better PSu to be
able to run that card?

There's only my 2.1 yamaha speakers aside my ctr witch i think are
shilded from what your reffering to. I know that some cheap lamp can
distort the screen and make some flashing effect with the refresh
rate. But thats not it.

Curiously as i'm wrinting this, i can't see that line maybe it my crt
that is going away, it an old 1996 nec multisync xv17+ ctr, second
hand... its a dinosor...
