I Explorer address "about:blank" take-over

B

Bill

Every time I start Microsoft Internet Explorer it defaults
to the about:blank address which takes me to a search
engine. I've tried resetting the start-up address from the
Internet Options page under tools. That works as long as I
leave my browser on. If I turn it off, the next time I
open it up pops about:blank. How can I stop this, or
change the about:blank internet address? This began
happening after I downloaded service pack 1 from microsoft.

Thanks!

Hi

Try these programs to check for any spyware that may be on your system:

Ad-Aware - www.lavasoftusa.com
Spybot - http://www.safer-networking.org/
CWShredder - http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

Hi,

some of these search pages have a Help section,it yours
got one,go there..you might find a hint telling you where
the information is stored. Once, the information was in a
file called sys.reg. I had to open with notebad and
delete contents.

Good Luck

This has nothing to do with Service Pack 1. You have spyware on your
system. Remove spyware with Spybot Search & Destroy from
www.safer-networking.org and Ad-aware from www.lavasoftusa.com. Be sure
to update these programs before running them. These programs are free,
so run them both since they complement each other. It is best to run
antivirus and spyware removal tools in Safe Mode. You may also need to
run CWShredder from http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/index.html .
Please read the instructions carefully. A great resource for dealing
with spyware is http://www.spywareinfo.com. Also, make sure you've
visited Windows Update and applied all security patches. Make sure you
are running a firewall and a current antivirus using updated
definitions.
