I dont want all users to have access to installed programs

I am using the home version of XP and when I install a program it goes to all user accounts. How do I stop this? I only want them to get to the programs I want them to get too. They are Limited accounts but it still gets installed on their account.

To make your folders private

1.. Open My Computer.
2.. Double-click the drive where Windows is installed (usually drive (C:),
unless you have more than one drive on your computer).
If the contents of the drive are hidden, under System Tasks, click Show
the contents of this drive.

3.. Double-click the Documents and Settings folder.
4.. Double-click your user folder.
5.. Right-click any folder in your user profile, and then click
Properties.
6.. On the Sharing tab, select the Make this folder private so that only I
have access to it check box.
Notes

a.. To open My Computer, click Start, and then click My Computer.
b.. This option is only available for folders included in your user
profile. Folders in your user profile include My Documents and its
subfolders, Desktop, Start Menu, Cookies, and Favorites. If you do not make
these folders private, they are available to everyone who uses your
computer.
c.. When you make a folder private, all of its subfolders are private as
well. For example, when you make My Documents private, you also make My
Music and My Pictures private. When you share a folder, you also share all
of its subfolders unless you make them private.
d.. You cannot make your folders private if your drive is not formatted as
NTFS. For information about converting your drive to NTFS.

Hi,

It's the nature of the software. You can set permissions on the program
folder to limit other user's access. See:L

HOW TO: Set, View, Change, or Remove File and Folder Permissions in Windows
XP

You may also want a simpler method - there is a security utility developed
by MVP Doug Knox that can help you with this. You will find it under
utilities at www.dougknox.com

You're somewhat out of luck w/ XP Home. Programs are always avail to all
users. DO NOT make the ..\Programs\.. folder private!

Now, if your users aren't too sophisticated (kids. uh, young kids I guess)
you could remove those programs from their account's Start Menu so that
they can't see/choose them. This won't stop them from running it via the
command line, or browsing the ..\Programs\.. folder and double clicking on
a program's icon.

Here's what you need to know:

Each user account's start menu (say, johnny's) is a combination of the All
Users start menu and their individual Start Menu [ie, the folders
\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\... and \Documents
and Settings\johnny\Start Menu\Programs\...]

So, programs that you don't want everyone to see need to be removed from
both the All Users menu and the specific user's menu, and should only be
present in any individual user(s) that you want to be able to launch the
program (ie, dad's account). Typically, when you install a program it
adds itself to the All Users menu. So after an install you'll need to cut
its shortcut(s) from All Users and paste it into each individual user's
own folder. Do these shortcut moves when logged into an admin account.

If there is a program that ONLY YOU want to be able to run, you could try
making its folder [..\Programs\theApp] private [do this when logged into
your account, not the admin account]. Then only your account can run it.
