I Don't Really Get This...

I bought some Canon matte photo paper and Epson Matte Paper Heavyweight for
my Canon i950, just to try the matte papers on it. They both seem to have
the same problem. You take the paper out, and it looks like ordinary white
paper, no texture or emulsion qualities whatsoever - so flat and plain that
you can hardly tell which side to print on. It says print on the "whiter"
side, but it is hard to tell which side that is. I can barely detect a
slightly yellower cast to one side, so I use the other side and assume that
is correct.

Any matte paper experts out there? What's the deal with these matte papers?
Maybe I should try the silk or something. Anyone have a beautiful matte
paper that is compatible with the Canons?

use the side that DOES NOT have the slight yellow cast.

There is also an easy way to by pass this problem. When you get a new pack of
matte paper, open it and determine the white side Then lay the white side down
(all the sheets are facing in the same direction) and place a small check mark
on the yellow back 9of each sheet. Thereafter, for that pack, you will have NO
problem determining the correct side.

For epson papers at least, the printable side is that which face to
the front of the package. Been that way for the half dozen or so I
use, including the Heavyweight Matte.

I guess I just don't see the value of the Heavyweight Matte. Prints look
just like they were on plain paper.

At least for my Epson 1270, now way you could print at the same high
resolution and saturation on ordinary paper.
