I deleted files. Available disk space goes down !

Why does my available disk space go _down_ after I

1) Uninstalled Norton Ghost
2) Deleted old email from OE and compressed the folders
3) Took everything from My Documents and moved it a zip disk
4) Deleted all cookies and temporary internet files
5) Used "Disk Cleanup"
6) Uninstalled everything I could possible do without from MS Office

All I'm trying to do is get 15% free space on my 6GB hard drive in order to
defrag the fool thing.

^%$&*# !!!!! ?

Because you didn't empty your recycle bin. Or you have installed nortons
protected recycle bin.

A 6 gig drive is WAY to small for a proper XP PC.

What size would you suggest? Maybe 40GB?

30 at a minimum. Many pcs have a 30/32 gig bios limit. In other words,
if your pc cant do at least a 30gig, then personally, I wouldn't suggest
putting XP on that pc.

oh it'll do at least 80gb. i just happened to have a couple of 6gb drives
lying around & thought i'd use them. btw the norton protected recycle bin
was the culprit.

duh...

Not your fault. The nortons protected recycle bin is NOT recommeded.
