I Dare You******TRY to uninstall Giant

if you have other anti spyware programs such as spybot s&d
or spyware doctor that immunize stuff on your machine you
need to undo the immunizations and then uninstall
otherwise as soon as you reboot the immunizations will
reinstall the deleted items. this could be the reason
its "recreating" itself.

Worked for me. I uninstalled and had gcasserv "recreating itself" only
to find it was Adaware Professional w/Adwatch doing exactly what it is
set up to do. Disabled Adwatch and permanently deleted gcasserv with
no further problems.

Having considered this over time--I think you've got the correct solution to
what gave rise to this thread. I wonder whether mark will return and tell
us?

Great! Thanks for that info - what a crazy thread!

I guess with over 30 million combinations of software, hardware, and
preferences, almost anything is possible!

why thank you Bill-i discovered this immunization problem
on my own and thought id pass it along-im surprised its
not given as a solution to recurring, recreating,
reinstalling or regenerating items more often on these
forums- of course it could be that not many people realize
that the immunization is what is actually reinstalling
these items they have just removed but if you think about
it - it just makes sense. of course undoing the
immunizations may not be enough-you may have to disable
the software that is immunizing your machine after you
undo the immunization and then try removing whatever it is
your trying to remove.

just as an example if you have spybot s&d and spyware
doctor on your machine and have your system immunized with
both programs
first undo the immunization in both programs
second disable both programs
third remove whatever it is your trying to remove
fourth reboot
fifth check and make sure the items have been removed-if so
sixth re-immunize your system and your done

like i said if you have more than one program immunizing
your system youll need to to undo the immunization in all
programs that are immunizing and then disable said
programs BEFORE you try to remove anything-otherwise its
just gonna come back again after you reboot and your gonna
make a fool of yourself comign in here and crying that a
legit program is actually a virus when its your own lack
of knowledge that is actually the culprit.

of course this assumes that what mark had was not a virus-
its certainly possible he did have a virus that is
disguising itself or pretending to be gcasserv.exe or
gcasDTerv.exe in wich case i thank mark for the heads up
and to be on the lookout for such a thing.

ah another satisfied customer-glad i could help out with
my suggestion

Actually, I had done this before your post and just wanted to confirm
your idea.

It's been pointed out to me that the virus reference I found has a somewhat
different filename than the one Mark cites.

I've mentioned this thread to several other people, and none of us ever uses
the immunization functionality in those apps--which may be why we aren't
alert to this kind of issue with it.
