I could use some help Please?

Running XP home with all available patches.Ran virus scans(no problem).Ran
adaware and spybot(no problems).Ran Chkdsk(no problems).Ran defrag(no
problems).Cleared Temp folder.
I cannot download anything,except windows updates.Anything else,they look
like they are downloading,but then the download panel flashes off when
finished after I click on run.I save them to desktop or the download
folders,but they do not show up there.Have done a search for them,but to no
avail.Have tried a system restore,but this did not fix it(to a point that I
know was good). I am out of ideas here,but I think that I am missing a file
or dll or else I have messed up some setting,but I do not know what.Can
anybody please help me?
I cannot open any attachment,download any pps. files,pdf files.I
can,however,open and watch wmv files(it automatically opens the windows media
player).I have redownloaded adobe acrobat reader and can open any pdf files
that have been previously downloaded on my computer,but cannot
download/save/view any ones I try to download.
Hope this is enough information and thanks in advance for anyone that can

You are going to want to roll back your system state to a point before these
problems started occurring. Use System Restore

I've done this.It did not work.I think I am missing some file.I do not want
to quick restore,as there is too much to back up....
