I can't send or receive email.

After accurately inputting Internet E-Mail Settings (POP3) in Outlook 2002
and Outlook Express, Outlook Express automatically sends/receives emails
without problems, but Outlook 2002 does neither. "Test Account Settings"
from Tools/E-Mail Accounts/E-mail Accountsmenu in Outlook 2002 completes
successfully, but clicking "About send and receive groups" tab provides no
response. Microsoft Article 284312, 12/10/04 seems to address this problem,
but the workaround of renaming or deleting all .srs files does not solve my
problem. Could I be enjoying a similar but different problem with Outllook?

Hi BIll,
can you post the error message you get?

When I click on "Send/Receive" button, I receive the following message: "The
operation failed. An object could not be found." I think this error may be
occurring because I have been unable to define "Send/Receive Groups". When I
try to define them by clicking on "Define Send/Receive Groups" tab within
"Send/Receive Settings" tab on "Tools" menu, the Tools dropdown menu closes,
but nothing happens--no error message but the configuration window for Groups
doses not open. Interestingly, Outlook Express works fine with same email
settings so I think I have a damaged file in Outlook. I just removed Outlook
2002 and reinstalled, but the same thing happens. After two days reading the
Microsoft website, I am frustrated and will definitely appreciate help.

Than you, Diane, for your suggestion. According to Microsoft Article ID No.
284312, dated 12/10/04, deleting the .srs file that matches the name of the
Send/Receive group that is corrupted should solve the problem as you
suggested. Theoretically, a new "All Accounts" group should be created when
Outlook is restarted. Since I could not identify which Send/Receive group
was corrupted because I received no response when I tried to gain acces to
Send/Receive Groups, I deleted all of the .srs files and restarted Outlook.
I repeated the process three times, but each time the error returned. Since
recreating the .srs files does not solve the problem, I wonder if the file
that calls the .srs files is itself corrupted. Unless I hear another good
idea to try, I think I will uninstall Outlook 2002, reinstall Outlook 2000
and then try to upgrade to Outlook 2002. If one of the .exe files was
corrupt, I would have thought that reinstalling Outlook 2002 would have
solved the problem, but it didn't do it.

I very much appreciate the suggestions from you and Andreas. The time and
effort you have both devoted to helping me reinforces my believe that there
are many good people in this world. Thank you.

I'm back for more ideas. When I uninstalled Outlook 2002 and reinstalled
Outlook 2000, the send/read email function worked fine. Great news!

Unfortunately, when I upgraded to Outlook 2002, the old problem returned.
Does this addional information give anyone an idea on what I should try next?

Thank you.

Diane,

Thank you for the extra push to create a new profile. Andreas made that
suggestion earlier in this thread, but I did not try it because I did not
know how to create a new profile. When two knowledgeable individuals both
make the same recommendation, I decided it was time to learn how to create
profiles.

After struggling with this problem for more than two days, creating a new
profile allowed me to open the "About send and receive groups" tab which in
turn allowed me to set the parameters the program was searching for when it
failed to respond earlier.

Microsoft should add "Create a new profile" as an additonal step to thier
Article 284312, dated 12/10/04 so that others may benefit from your wisdom.

I wish to thank both of you again for your help.

/Bill

I just recently installed Office 2003 on this computer. I keep getting the
same error message and have read every bit of info I can find on it to no
avail. Were you able to solve this??? THanks, Marcy

Marcy,

If you read thorugh the responses to my question in this thread, you will
discover that Microsoft Article 284312, dated 12/10/04 describes the most
likely fix for your problem, i.e., deleting corrupt files. However, that
article did not provide the solution to my problem which required simply that
I set up a new profile. You may want to try both approaces to see if it
solves your problem. If not, post a new thread as I did and many experts
will be wiling to help you. These Discussion Groups are a wonderful resource.
