i can't see the com1 port in my computer

Hi all,

I just bought a ibm r40 notebook, it was installed with a windows xp.

But when i opened the hardware manager, I couldn't find the com1 port, but
can only find the lpt1.

Can anybody explain what is the reason of it? How can I make com1 port
appear in the "hardware manager" program?

Does your notebook actually have a hardware comport built into
it? The trend now days is to have only USB on the thin notebooks.
If it does have one, check the bios and make sure it isn't
disabled there.
